Overview of new worldoutline features
A very high-level view of what I've been working on over the holidays.
In the previous model you had one very large outline. The idea was that you could drop a marker anywhere and start a new domain. But the editing environment didn't have a boundary. So editing was actually easier than reading, also more complex.
It was great to begin with but over time my outline got too big, and I moved into a new apartment with much slower upstream bandwidth. So I could really feel the size of the data I was moving around. Each time I'd save one bit of text a megabyte of text would be uploaded along with it. This was manageable when the outline was smaller and the net connection was faster.
Now you can have as many outlines as you want, and each of them has all the power of the original. You can have domain markers in any of them.
There's a new roots page on the worldoutline website. From there you can create new roots, edit the settings for each of them. With an icon click you can open the outline in the OPML Editor, where you can make text changes and change the title.
There's a new default template, that reflects a lot of what I've learned about CSS since the last time I did a template.
Your old sites should still run. Mine do -- and I haven't had to do anything specific to them to keep them going. But eventually I plan to break each of them up into smaller project-oriented files. I think that'll work best for me.
